What is the Gfinity Challenger Series?
The Gfinity Challenger series takes place online and consists of collection of online cups aimed at various levels of player ability.
Over the course of the season players are able to participate in as many tournaments as possible where they earn depending on where they finish. The winner of each tournament receives the most amount of points and it descends accordingly.
At the end of the season the players who have earned the highest amount of G-Points progress into The Elite Draft. Points are then reset for the new season and The Challenger Series begins again
What are G-Points?
These points will be used to seed teams / players in future tournaments. No points are distributed for finishing outside the top 64 teams. Teams and players receive the same points.
What is the Elite Draft?
The Elite Draft is a process whereby our Gfinity Elite Series teams take turns in selecting players from a pool of eligible players. These players are those that have competed in the Challenger Series and have accumulated enough G-Points to be invited to the Elite Draft, and are deemed to be eligible. When a team selects a player, that team receives exclusive rights to sign that player to a contract and no other team in the Gfinity Elite Series may sign that player.
What makes me eligible for the Draft?
In order to be eligible to take place in the Elite Draft you will need to be based in and have a passport or Resident Card of an European country. You will also need to be above the age of 16 years old on the date the draft takes place. You also cannot currently be signed under contract to any professional esports organisation.
What happens after the Draft if I am selected?
If you are selected by an Elite Series team in the Elite Draft, firstly - congratulations! This is an excellent step towards becoming a professional esports athlete. Secondly, that team will be responsible for reaching out to you via your provided contact details (email usually) to begin contract negotiations.
What happens if I do not want to sign with the team that selected me?
If you do not sign with the team that has drafted you, and Gfinity deems that that team has made a reasonable offer to secure your services, then you will not be able to take part in the Gfinity Elite Series Delivered for the current season, and the season after. You will also be ineligible to compete in the Challenger Series for the season after.. We make this rule to prevent players from rejecting offers from teams in the hope that they will be picked up by another. To be clear, you are not forced to sign for the team that drafts you. It is however the best way to get in to the Elite Series competition, as rejecting a reasonable offer can mean you have to wait until a later season to try to compete again.
If I sign my team’s contract, what will be expected of me?
At a minimum, Gfinity mandates that all rostered players are able to attend our media weekend in London. Travel and accommodation for this is organised by your team. You will be required to attend at least one of the two days. In addition to media day and depending on your team’s roster decisions, you may be expected to attend the Gfinity Elite Series live shows.
What will happen in Media Weekend?
Over the media weekend we take the opportunity to greet all players taking part in the upcoming season, including presenting the upcoming Elite Series fixtures and format, media training for being in front of a camera and any other useful information that players may require. We also use the time to take crucial photographs, green screen images as well as video interviews for use in Elite Series broadcast.
Where can I find legal advice and support when signing the contract?
We would always advise that you take legal advice before signing any contract. If you are unable to discuss it with a lawyer, a family friend, adult or other responsible individual is a good option.
Where can I watch the Elite Series?
The Gfinity Elite Series is streamed live on on our Facebook show pages:
Will I be on Camera?
You are likely to be at some point. All Elite Series matches are broadcast live and we will often ask players to take part in interviews - including substitutes who may be watching their teammates play from the crowd. In between Elite Series game weeks, we also regularly invite players to participate in media opportunities to help raise your profiles and to promote the Elite Series.
Is Media Training available?
Media training can be provided to players to help you with your on-screen presence and develop your interview skills. More information on this is given to players at the media weekend.
Do I need a Social Media account?
This is not mandatory. However we strongly recommend you have social presence on Facebook and Twitter, as being part of the Gfinity Elite Series can greatly raise your profile across these platforms.
